Lester's Foods Ltd. is a Canadian meat processor based in Laval, QC. Founded in 1931 by Eastern European immigrant Max Lester who sold meat products out of his deli in Montreal, Quebec. The business continued under his sons Moe and Joe who opened a plant in 1964 to keep up with demand. The company's main products are smoked meat and hot dogs, of which it produces some 140 million each year.

Lesters workplace is dirty and outdated, work is boring and monotonous, there are no growth opportunities, and a toxic working environment, according to a former employee at glassdoor.com

"This is the most horrible job I ever had the manager is the worst boss I ever had she has no skills on how to be nice to her workers her customer service is the fakest I have ever seen in my life !!NoneBad place to work !"

"The manager at the rye store acts like she is curing cancer. If a ticket is showing she acts like the store is going to go out of business if you dont tuck it in. Every word out of her mouth is mean. She has no idea how to motivate or speak to staff in a kind manner. One good thing out of this is the staff bond together in talking about her and hating on her. You only get a 30 minute break even if you work a full day. There's no incentive to sell. The most incentive ever given is if you sell $1000 in clothing you get a $5 gift card. Ha! You can't even buy a lip balm in there for $5. Do yourself a favor and don't work here unless you like human torture.Nice staffManager is nasty, short breaks, no incentive"

It's natural for the customers to feel entitled due to the clientele, but the lack of support and crudeness of some managers really drove me out. "My job consisted of (trying to sell) magazine subscriptions to restaraunts and doctors offices. They were strict when it came to "Employment at Will" in my time working there i watched at least a dozen people get let go for blatantly obvious and sometimes stupid reasons. in order to get a day off from work not only would you have to confirm it with your manager but you also had to get ahold of EVERY employee to make sure that they didnt' call off that day or could come in and work.It was located in the middle of nowhere. meaning no noise to worry aboutMiddle of nowhere so leaving for your break is simply a no"

"Lester's is a great place to learn and develop interpersonal skills. The staff is friendly and work great with one another. There is a need for improvement within upper management. Expectations are high for sales (which is understandable). The work hours for a salary employee are inconvenient due to the normal work day exceeding 8 hours, not to mention there's no overtime if you work more than 8 hours a day or 40hrs a week.Meeting great clients and the occasional celebrity.Short breaks, HealthCare plan could be a lot better, Work days exceeding 8 hours without compensation."

"Morning meeting with entire store, then cleaning all tabletops, cash wrap, doors, and windows.Assist customers, handle transactions, fold and remove sensors from merchandise, organize hangers, organize paperwork, wrap gifts as per request, and clean during down time.Management makes you feel completely inferior.Co-workers are amazing.Hardest part of the job is working 10-11 hour shifts with a 30 minute lunch break about 8 hours before the end of your shift. "I would clock in, hang new products and help with creating new displays or where to put the new products that came in. I was working in every department so every day was pretty much the same just working with different clothing whether it was children clothes or men clothing or even womens clothing. I also was a cashier and would help out when needed. I would also have to wrap gifts and ring out gift cards, and close the register when the day was done. I would also have to keep track of inventory to know what and when we would need to purchase new or more products. At the end of the day I would re-fold all the clothes make sure everything was in its appropriate spot as well as maintain a clean work ( windex mirrors, vacuum, and clean up fitting rooms)fun place of work, great co workers, learned a lot about fashion working with customers closely as wellshort lunch, not enough pay, no room for moving up"

"Sales positions are highly focused on customer relationships. Accommodating customers was difficult because clients are mostly youth and mothers/fathers are purchasing. This is a great place to work part time as a high-school student, otherwise advancement is difficult because there are not many management positions and there is little consideration of employee needs (adjusting schedules for students during mid-terms / finals, following through on promised schedule changes once commitments have been made, giving employees the chance at opportunity when sought after by an associate. Employer need your full attention on site /off site or there are deductions in available hours and ability to request time off.Employee Discount, Great to work with kids, Emphasizes building client relations.Short breaks, Few opportunities to advance, Favoritism occurs often."
